Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam promotes package recycling culture for a green, clean and beautiful Vietnam


As one of the founding members of the Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam (PRO Vietnam), Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has always been active in collecting packages and promoting recycling activities for a sustainable development of Vietnam.

Change public awareness on package waste

In line with the organization's vision on a recirculating economy of package recycling, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has carried out many recycling activities including collecting scraps, processing consumed packages, and promoting activities to raise community awareness on package recycling culture.


One of the most outstanding program to be named was the beach cleaning in 5 provinces including Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Binh Dinh, Quang Nam and Ben Tre with the participation of over 1,000 volunteers in companionship with the Vietnam National Union of Students in 2019.


8.5 tons of wastes were collected from the beaches by the volunteers and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam employees and partners.

 

Recycle and promote a recycling culture

Being proactive in building the recycling habit amongst the community, the company collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization in organizing "Recycle Festival - MIZU Knight for the Environment" within the framework "Mizuiku - I Love Clean Water” program to raise the student’s awareness on the importance of reuse, recycling and environment protection. The activity was carried out in 15 elementary schools with the participation of around 6,500 students. In 2020, students will start to have waste sorting lessons as a part of their school’s program. Information corners and waste separation areas will be set up for students to separate wastes accordingly.

Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam is fully aware of its role and responsibility in solving environment issues and improving environment friendliness of the production process. Since 2018, the company has carried out various initiatives to reduce plastic in production, which saved up to 3,500 tons of plastic. The removal of shrink film on Aquafina bottle caps also helped to save another 140 tons of plastic each year.

Since 2019, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam launched the “Revival of Waste" trash classification campaign in all offices and factories.  400 new bins set up at 82 waste classification areas were equipped for waste sorting in factories and offices. With the protecting environment purpose, the program has received an overwhelming participation of all employees.

Continue to spread many meaningful activities.

On the journey to build a package recycling culture, changing the perception and behaviors of the people, especially of the young generation and encourage them to join hands in creating initiatives to build a green, clean and beautiful Vietnam is very important.

Accordingly, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam has accompanied the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in the "Summer 2020 Youth Volunteer" campaign. On June 28, over 1000 volunteers and company employees, partners participated in the campaign "Let's clean the beaches” in Quang Binh and Da Nang provinces. In July and August, the journey will continue in Hai Phong, Nghe An, Can Gio and Can Tho provinces, expecting to attract many more volunteers to help protecting a green beach.

With the plastic bottles collected from these programs, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam planned to build sport playgrounds, tree tubs, sunshades, etc. in 5 provinces nationwide.

With these activities, the company wants to spread the message that waste packages can be useful if we collect, reuse, and recycle properly.
