Closing Ceremony on “Mizuiku – I love clean water” 2019
On November 14, 2019, in Quang Nam province, Suntory Holdings Limited (Japan), Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage (Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam) in collaboration with the Central Council for Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, the Vietnam National Student Union organized the Closing Ceremony of “Mizuiku – I love clean water” program in 2019.
The Education Program for Nature and Water – Mizuiku – is an initiative of Suntory Holdings Limited (Suntory) which was established and implemented in Japan since 2004. In 2015, the program was successfully piloted in the Northern region of Vietnam and then other provinces by Suntory Holdings, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam in collaboration with the local partners. The original format in Japan was customized and adjusted to create an interesting program suitable for the reality in Vietnam. Since 2017, the Central Council for Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, the Vietnam National Union of Students in collaboration with Suntory Group and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam implemented the program at the nationwide scale. Vietnam was the first country chosen by Suntory to implement the program. Learning from the successful implementation in Vietnam, Suntory has now conducted the program in Indonesia and Thailand.
In 2019, the program was conducted in 4 provinces including Lang Son, Quang Nam, Ben Tre, Dong Nai with 17 beneficiary school. 20 water filtration and sanitation systems were finished. Close to 350,000 students and local residents were benefited from the program activities this year including Mizuiku classes, water filtrations, sanitation systems, fanpage, website, community events, etc. A comic book series “Mizu – The Talking Water Drop” on water saving knowledge for children from 4 to 10 was published.
It is finalized that the program will continue to be implemented in Vietnam for the period of 2020 – 2022. The new points of the program will be the incorporate of waste classification for recycling in the education curriculum, further expansion of the program leveraging the E-learning platform and the volunteers of Green Summers for class implementation, introducing the program to international schools, women/mother associations and corporate/business forums to create better impacts. The organizers will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training to introduce the Mizuiku materials as reference books for after-class activities at primary schools in Vietnam.
